Raja Puri is the banana for difficult sites. It is stocky and strong-stemmed enough to shrug off wind that would shred other varieties, tolerates cold better than most, and stays a tidy 8 feet or so.
The fruit is smaller than a Cavendish but noticeably sweeter — closer to honey than to the standard banana flavor. A favorite among growers in Florida and the Gulf Coast who are tired of replacing wind-wrecked plants.
